Things Libre Arts didn't blog about 2022

Bild
Alexandre Prokoudine does a great job with his Libre Arts blog and he made a big overview of the year 2022 with a preview of 2023 : As he looks at the big picture I collected some news from small more hidden open source graphics projects: Mobile As I'm only interested in the non mainstream mobile stacks I'm ignoring Android an OS here completely. Megapixels Megapixels got two new releases (1.5 and 1.6) with nice improvements.Meanwhile is Purism working on an fork called millipixels that is using libcamera. libcamera The first version of libcamera released and a lot of big companies like RedHat, Purism and the Raspberry Pi Foundation are working together to improve the camera stack. Image Viewer Image viewers are the kind of programmes that every one thinks are easy to write. But then you realise not only there are thousands of different file formats with metadata (with informations like "rotate this image", "this is an panorama", "geo locations...

Timelapse Czech Republic 2017

Bild
(Title, zoom effect, slow playback of the balloon).  Verbesserungsmöglichkeiten:   Mehr Fotos pro Minute Autofokus ausschalten "Richtige" Kamera benutzen und RAW Fotos machen Musik von JuliusH von Pixabay . EN:  I was cleaning up "old" images and came across a time-lapse series from 2017. If the metadata doesn't fool me I took a photo about every 1-2 seconds. Unfortunately the photos are from my cell phone and only as JPEG, so there wasn't much to improve in darkta...

Alexandre Prokoudine does a great job with  his Libre Arts blog and he made a big overview of the year 2021 : As he looks at the big picture I collected some news from small more hidden open source graphics projects: Mobile PinePhone and Purism Librem 5 got camera support and a portable new camera app (GTK3) Pine64 and Purism worked on phones with a default Linux Kernel. And they both now have camera drivers and they worked together on the camera app Megapixels:   https:// blog.brixit.nl/pinephone-came ra-pt4/ https://puri.sm/posts/librem-5-news-summary-april-2021/     pine64.org now sells a Open Source IP Cam https:// pine64.org/cube/   ResberyPi   ResberyPi released a new version of there distribution and switched the camera stack to libcamera . Panorama Tools As Alexandre already talked about Hugin and SkyFill I have only two additions: Lux   A new free OpenGL image viewer specialists for panoramas : https://bitbucket.org/kfj/pv/src/master/ ...

Googles new Camera App - Update

Bild
Googles new Camera App saves a depth map inside the EXIF data. You can extract it with: $ exiftool -Data -b v2lsFX.jpg | base64 -d > test.png Here is an example: More links, that may be interesting in this context: Google Documentation: https://developers.google.com/depthmap-metadata/reference Depth-of-field-based alpha-matte extraction: http://citeseerx.ist.psu.edu/viewdoc/summary?doi=10.1.1.83.5098 Gimp Focus Blur Plugin: http://registry.gimp.org/node/1444 Update: Google removed this App for most phones from the AppStore. But you can get it from alternative resources like apkmirror.com. You need at least Version 2.7: https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/camera/camera-2-7-008-release/ A nice online tool to play with the images is depthy, a third dimension viewer: http://depthy.me (The link no longer works.)

Timelapse Tiltshift Video (Update: English text)

Bild
(You can find a English version of the text below.) English version: On the  Libre Graphics Meeting 2014 I've discovered how to create a timelapse tiltshift video. You can see the result here:  Fi...

Light pollution in Münster

Bild
This is how it looks like at night if a local furniture retailer here in Münster turns on his lights. I would more like to see the Milky Way than this light pollution .
