This is a follow up of my last post "Panorama of old vase in VR" . The team from Klassik Stiftung Weimar asked me if it is possible to view the panorama directly into the blog without the link to google photos. My first answer was no, but then I started to research. I liked the idea to be a little bit more independent from Google. Google stopped the support of the Daydream last year and there will be no new smartphone with Daydream support. That means I will need to find other VR glasses if my smartphone will ever stop working. The good news is, I found A-Frame , an open-source web framework for building virtual reality (VR) experiences. A-Frame supports most VR headsets such as Vive, Rift, Windows Mixed Reality, Daydream, GearVR, Cardboard, Oculus Go, and can even be used for augmented reality. I found this very simple example to convert an equirectangular panorama to a 360° VR panorama. I just needed to add this eight line to the post and voila it's done. ...

I think the use of virtual reality glasses for knowledge transfer in general and in museums in particular is a very good idea. However, the implementation in this case cannot use the advantages of virtual reality glasses to the full extent. Not the viewing of objects in 3D is the big advantage of VR glasses, but the immersion into other worlds. To illustrate this, I have taken the photographic roll of the panorama, which they have kindly provided, and edited it so that it has become a 360° panorama into which you can immerse yourself with VR glasses. This time I stumbled across the picture "Hand with Reflecting Sphere" of M. C. Escher . This two images are again more then 200 years old and now we can view them in VR. After I have created panoramas that I can view with a DayDream VR headset, I have now added sound to the image.   In the last post I converted an 195 year old image from Carl August Richter into an version that can be viewed with an VR headset. Now I found an older version of this image. I cleaned it up and changed the colours and than made the same then in the last tutorial. I found this image from Carl August Richter in an article about Dresden in Wikipedia. I think I found one of the oldest "little planet". I created images like this already myself some times: Little City Planet , Elbe Sandstone Mountains Now I had the idea to do it reverse and create an 360° panorama that can be viewed with an VR headset. I used two guides in Gimp,  Image->Guides->New Guides (by percent) and then used the move tool to place the picture. After that I used the crop tool to to create a perfect square image.
