Panorama of old vase in VR
I found an nice blog post "Alte Vase im neuen Gewand" from the Klassik Stiftung Weimar (Classical Foundation Weimar):
In this blog post they describe how they use VR glasses to view an old vase. I think the use of virtual reality glasses for knowledge transfer in general and in museums in particular is a very good idea. However, the implementation in this case cannot use the advantages of virtual reality glasses to the full extent. Not the viewing of objects in 3D is the big advantage of VR glasses, but the immersion into other worlds.
To illustrate this, I have taken the photographic roll of the panorama, which they have kindly provided, and edited it so that it has become a 360° panorama into which you can immerse yourself with VR glasses.
I cut of the borders on the left and right, so I don't have double content.
Then I cleaned up some ugly parts with GIMP, changed the aspect ration to 2:1.
After that I used g'mic to inpaint the sky and removed the handles.
I have described the inpainting technique for fixing/creating the sky here: Tutorial: Dresden 1824 - Inside an image from Carl August Richter
Finally I added the necessary meta data with exiftool to the image and then upload it to Google Photos.
The exiftool command:
exiftool -ProjectionType="equirectangular" -UsePanoramaViewer="True" -"PoseHeadingDegrees<$exif:GPSImgDirection" -"CroppedAreaImageWidthPixels<$ImageWidth" -"CroppedAreaImageHeightPixels<$ImageHeight" -"FullPanoWidthPixels<$ImageWidth" -"FullPanoHeightPixels<$ImageHeight" -CroppedAreaLeftPixels="0" -CroppedAreaTopPixels="0" NAME.jpg
The result: https://photos.app.goo.gl/ NDAcuce3j1yo3TWu7
By the way, the location must be somewhere here:
