Expiriments with A-Frame

Moon with displacement map I played again a little bit with A-FRAME to create the moon. Thanks go to CG BOOST for giving me the link to the NASA image and displacement map from the moon and to the Museum of Science in Boston hat created the nice 360° star background . https://github.com/supertobi/aframe-moon-with-displacement-map Earth with moon But the Moon was not enough. Pimp your IKEA LAMPAN with Inkscape

You can easily pimp your IKEA LAMPAN by adding a paper cutting inside: The Math First we have to do some math. The lampshade is a geometric shape, a truncated cone. The pattern is part of a circular ring, i.e. a circular sector from which a second sector is cut out: The theorem of Pythagoras gives m = √ h²+(R-r)² and from the theorem of rays we get the equation R/r = M/(M-m). Thus: M = m-R/(R-r) applies. The sketch also shows: 2R-π = 2M-π-(α/α) and from this follows α = 2π-R/M - that is 360-R/M degrees. Dephth Maps - Startups - Update 1

Today I'd like to present three European startups. They all try to create depth maps with different technologies. Blickfeld with LiDAR https://www.blickfeld.com/products/ Blickfeld is developing a solid state LiDAR. This is not made for adding depth maps to photos, but I can imagine an LiDAR mounted on a camera like a flash. Update 1: Apples new iPhone has an integrated LiDAR sensor. The nice thing with this solution is, that you only need one shot. The bad thing is, that your resolution will be reduced. In the worst case your image will have 1/9 of you sensor size. Panorama of old vase in VR - "View of Berlin from the roof of the dome"

Bild: Klassik Stiftung Weimar After I created the first 360° view from a vase , the Klassik Stiftung Weimar provided an second panorama from an old vase (1835 - 1841) created by Royal Porcelain Factory in Berlin (KPM) . Bild: Klassik Stiftung Weimar This time I did not remove the handles at the bottom and the result looks really nice in the VR glasses. I've done nearly the same then with the last vase panorama. Most of the work wass done with GIMP, I created the missing sky with gmics inpainting method and then added some meta data with exiftool. Adolph Kaiser: Panorama Inselsberg in VR

1823 Adolph Kaiser Panoramic View from the Grosser Inselsberg, Germany in VR Adolph Kaiser: Panorama Inselsberg. Bild: Klassik Stiftung Weimar This is an Adolph Kaiser panorama view from the top of the Grosser Inselsberg , the highest mountain in German's Thuringian Forest. The over 200 different locations are numerically identified within the view and correspond to an index organized in wedges surrounding the view's center. The view illustrates the mountains and trees surrounding the Großer Inslelsberg. I'd like to thank the "Klassik Stiftung Weimar" for providing me a hi-resolution scan of the image . How to integrate a 360° Panorama with A-Frame into a Blogger post

This is a follow up of my last post "Panorama of old vase in VR" . The team from Klassik Stiftung Weimar asked me if it is possible to view the panorama directly into the blog without the link to google photos. My first answer was no, but then I started to research. I liked the idea to be a little bit more independent from Google. Google stopped the support of the Daydream last year and there will be no new smartphone with Daydream support. That means I will need to find other VR glasses if my smartphone will ever stop working. The good news is, I found A-Frame , an open-source web framework for building virtual reality (VR) experiences. A-Frame supports most VR headsets such as Vive, Rift, Windows Mixed Reality, Daydream, GearVR, Cardboard, Oculus Go, and can even be used for augmented reality. I found this very simple example to convert an equirectangular panorama to a 360° VR panorama. I just needed to add this eight line to the post and voila it's done. ...
